Fellow Pluckers:
My last confirmed wedding gig of the season was cancelled, so I’m going fishing this weekend! Celebrate with me, brethren and sistren in pluckitude. Still a remote tentative in mid September, but no confirmation.
Mr. Karl Wohlwend will be providing delicious ambience to delicious chow at the Maca Cafe, a great tapas eatery at 5 S. Liberty Street in Powell tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 29 from 7:30-9:30. I don’t know if I can break free for dinner, but may try. Feel free to call me to find out if I can make it, and perhaps we can all sup in support of live plucked music. Here’s a Dispatch Article about the place.

The next informal meeting of the CGS falls at 1:00 pm on 15 September 2007. Come on out to play some “classical” music on your guitar or kin…or just casually socialize and listen. As always, we’ll be at the Borders Books, Music & Cafe, 4545 Kenny Rd., Columbus, OH, 43220 (at the intersection of Kenny and Henderson Rds). Also as always, the setting is casual and supportive in the extreme. Don’t be shy now; feel free to pluck at something.
Of course, later that very day is the annual members’ concert, A Summer Evening of Guitar Music, 8 pm, 15 September 2007, Huntington Recital Hall, Capital University. This is our annual pre-season fund raiser. Admission is $5. If you’re playing there (as I am), I’m certain you’re also telling all your family and friends to attend.
It’s been a little while in coming, but I’ve been working with CAPA to get our tickets available for pre-sale. Ticket prices for the professional series are going up slightly for the 2007-08 season (at $18 general admission and $12 for students/seniors/members, I still think it’s one of the best entertainment values in Cow-town). Tickets will be available in advance via the CAPA ticket office (614-469-0939) or Ticketmaster.com approximately one month before each concert. In addition, you can preorder the four professional dates on the series at the discount rate of $48 total (saving $24 from the general admission rate) up to 20 October. Please take advantage of this system so that it becomes profitable for us to use (or so we at least recoup our expenses in using it), and please spread word of its availability. To whet the appetite, the professional dates on the 2007-08 season:
20 October 2007: Castellani & Andriaccio Duo
3 November 2007: Thomas Viloteau, GFA Victory Tour
9 February 2008: Xuefei Yang, guitar virtuoso
5 April 2008: Robert Gruca, classical guitarist
In addition, there will be the two members’ concerts (as always), the University of Cincinnati-CCM Guitar Ensemble will be performing on 26 January 2008, and we are working to add an exciting and slightly off-our-beaten-path, post-season fund-raising concert in June. More on that as details are finalized.
Also a long time coming, WOSU 89.7 FM is working to tentatively give us a segment for a pre-season preview on Music in Mid-Ohio in October. It is possible we may also get excerpts of our professional concerts broadcast in their new format. More on that as details unfold as well.
I look forward to seeing you all there.
