The Columbus Guitar Society has, since 1992, presented the only concert series in the region dedicated to promoting the art of the classical guitar. Past seasons have included such luminaries as Jason Vieaux, John Holmquist, Roland Dyens, David Tannenbaum, David Leisner, Dale Kavanagh, The Falla Trio, Quaternaglia, The Pearl-Gray Duo, Carlos Perez, Stanley Yates, and many winners of the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America Solo Artist Competition. Concerts take place in the acoustically brilliant Huntington Recital Hall at the Capital University Conservatory of Music. See Maps and Details page for directions. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster as well as for purchase (cash,check, or credit card) at the door, one hour before concert start time.

1 October 2022: Guitar virtuoso Cristiano Porqueddu
Recognized as a leading interpreter of 20th and 21st century guitar music, critics have labeled Cristiano Porqueddua reference point for the new generation of musicians.” After having obtained high marks at the international Conservatorio di Musica “Lorenzo Perosi,” he is now involved in international activity that encompasses concert performance, composition, and more than 25 recordings (spanning more than 60 CDs via box sets!). Performances have included some of the world’s most important venues, such as New York’s Carnegie Hall and the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory of Moscow. And we’re sincerely excited for Cristiano’s Columbus debut!

Australian guitarist Rupert Boyd and American cellist Laura Metcalf have toured the world sharing their eclectic mix of music from Debussy and Bach to Radiohead and Beyoncé. Their albums have been streamed well over 2 million times on Spotify alone! Both acclaimed soloists in their own right, Boyd has been described as “a player who deserves to be heard” by Classical Guitar Magazine while Metcalf was celebrated as “brilliant” by Gramophone. Their global engagements have included performances at the Newport Music Festival, Moab Music Festival, and many others.

4 March 2023: Bokyung Byun, Guitar Foundation of America champion
Praised by Classical Guitar Magazine as “confident and quite extraordinary,” Korean guitarist Bokyung Byun enjoys a reputation as one of the most sought-after guitarists of her generation. Byun holds the distinction of being the first female winner of the prestigious JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition where her performance was heralded as “stunning, showcasing…gorgeous tone, immaculate technique, and sophisticated musicianship.” This win is among many, including the Guitar Foundation of America, considered the most prestigious in the world.

6 May 2023: Christopher Wilke, Romantic-era and modern guitars
A protégé of renowned lutenist Paul O’Dette, Dr. Christopher Wilke has performed widely in Europe and the USA, including the Lute Society of America’s “Emerging Artist Series”; the Boston Early Music Festival; the European Lute Festival in Fuessen, Germany; and our very own CGS as well as with Columbus Symphony Orchestra. A regular to live public-radio performance, his recordings have also been featured on Concertzender Radio in the Netherlands, Canadian television, and the NPR programs Classical Guitar Alive!and Sunday Morning Baroque.

Join us in in this, our 31st season!  Individual ticket prices on our professional guest-artist series are $20 general admission, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students with valid ID.
